ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Bob "Mr. G" Gabruck starting the Spartan Volleyball Club in 1988 as an opportunity for his daughters and his friend’s daughters to play organized volleyball. This evolved into a 25-year commitment to one of rural Alberta’s longest standing volleyball clubs.

The Spartan program was built with hard work, discipline and dedication - qualities that Mr. G defined through leading by example. Bob held high expectations for his athletes but was always willing to do anything in his power to support their growth and development. This was exemplified by his continued dedication as a coach, manager, team therapist, administrator, or any other task that needed attention.

It has been over a decade since he has passed through the gym doors in Killam Public School. However, his legacy continues to live on in the athletes who don the Spartan jersey every season.

Mr. G created a thriving volleyball community in rural Central Alberta and we are grateful for his dedication and hard work, but most importantly, his passion for the game and his athletes.
